  中国新诗——或者叫现代汉语诗,包括海外华人的汉语新诗—— 的历史,如果以《新青年》杂志发表白话诗作为开端的话,那么始於1917年;如果以第一本白话诗集的出版作为开端的话,那么始於1920年。明年,2007年,可以说是中国现代汉语诗诞生九十周年。我们将以对诗的虔诚、对诗的尊崇、对诗的感恩、对诗的奉献之情,来纪念这个伟大的九十华诞!

  历史是人民创造的,诗史是民间歌手、诗人和读者创造的。现代汉语诗史是现代汉语诗人、歌手的作品和他们的读者创造的。一部史书,如果仅仅是史实的堆砌,那只能是资料库。一部史书,如果缺乏足够的史料,那将受制於视野的偏狭。为了史家写好现代汉语诗史,史料的完备十分重要。本刊上期(第42期)《卷头语》中为自己提出的三项任务中有一项是“抢救”或者叫“保存”。这就是要抢救或保存现代汉语诗大量作品(包括经典作品和优秀作品)的文本。

  唐代殷潘选编的唐代开元、天宝年间诗歌作品选集《河狱英灵集》,是一个有审美原则的、优秀的选本,但恰恰缺失了大诗人杜甫。如果据这个选本来写这一段诗史,那将成为“遗憾的艺术”。

  本刊与“中外现代诗名家集萃”的各个系列有著兄弟般的血缘关系。本刊发表的作品,有的已收入其中一个系列《夕照诗丛》。从2004年起,《夕照诗丛》已出版十几位诗人的汉英双语《短诗选》,他们是:灰娃、蔡其矫、晏明、艾青、严阵、莫洛、冰心、卞之琳、冯至、杨山、胡风、郑敏、胡昭、杜谷、莫文征、公刘、覃子豪、吴钧陶等。这套诗丛的编辑出版工作将继续努力进行,“夕照”是“集萃”多个系列中的一个。从其名称也可以看出,它收集的目标是老诗人,包括健在者和已故者。
历史和现时是两个概念,二者的界线是清楚的。但今天的现在到了明天就成为过去。此刻的现时到了下
  刻就成为历史。不断成长的青年诗人正一代又一代地涌现。他们也写出了优秀的、以至杰出的作品!本刊和“集萃”为保存历史的记录,对青年诗人作品的文本十分重视,为他们提供了、还将提供充分的园地。因为他们代表著现代汉语诗的未来。本期就郑重推出了“中原诗阵”专辑和粤、湘、赣边区24位青年诗人作品组成的“红三角”诗丛专辑。

  让我们以勤奋的工作和满怀的信心,来迎接2007年这个庄严的时刻!

FOREWORD

  New Chinese Poetry, or we say, The Modern Chinese Poetry, including The Overseas Chinese Poetry, commenced its history in 1917, when the first colloquial poem was published on THE NEW YOUTH. It might originate from 1920, if you regard the publication of the first colloquial poetry book as the very beginning. 2007 is coming next year with the 90th birthday anniversary of the Modern Chinese Poetry. We will celebrate the great anniversary with our innermost piety, homage and dedication to poetry!

  As people create history, folk singer, poets and readers create a history of poetry. The modern Chinese poets, singers and their readers have been creating the history of modern Chinese poetry. A history book, if only listed with historical data, is merely a database. A history book, if lack of sufficient data, is inaccessible to a wide vision. The sufficient data is vital for a historian to write out a good history of modern Chinese poetry. The Foreward of our previous Contemporary Poetry Quarterly (No. 42) presented three assignments, one of them is "salvage" or we say "Preserve" to salve or to preserve a great deal of texts of modern Chinese poetry, including the classics and the first-rank.

  In Tang dynasty, YIN PAN once compiled an anthology of poems written within Kaiyuan and Tianbao periods, but it is a pity that such a fine selection of aesthetical taste missed out the poems of TU FU, a great poet of Tang Dynasty. The history of poetry, if based on the above anthology, will definitely be "a regretful art"

  Our Quarterly has a close relation with The World Contemporary Poetry Series. Some poetry works published on the Quarterly, have been selected into The Setting Sun Shine Poetry Series, which has issued dozens of Selected Short Poems bilingual written by poets such as Hui Wa, Cai Qijiao, Yan Ming, Ai Qing, Yan Zhen, Mo Luo, Bing Xin, Bian Zhilin, Feng Zhi, Yang Shan, Hu Feng, Zheng Min, Hu Zhao, Du Gu, Mo Wenzheng, Gong Liu, Chin Tzuhao, Wu Juntao,etc. The Setting Sun Shine Poetry Series, which is a branch of The world Contemporay Poetry Series, will be published further, mainly for the senior poets, whoever are alive or not.

  The past and the present are different concepts and their borderline is very clear. However, today becomes the past for tomorrow and further becomes the history for the next period. Generations of new poets have been growing up rapidly. They have written out many fine and excellent poems. To keep a record of history, our Quarterly and Series offer sufficient publication space for the young poets, who are the promising of our modern Chinese poetry.The current issue presents a special collection of Zhongyuan Poets And Red Delta Series of 24 young poets from the border area of Guangdong, Hunan and Jiangxi provinces.

  Let us salute to 2007, the dignified moment, with our full confidence and hard work!
