彭邦桢,湖北黄陂人,生於一九一九年,自十五岁学诗,迄今已六十八年。抗日军兴,投笔报考中央军校十六期,在校以诗而知名。毕业后,历练军职;一九四四年以少校率青年军入印度接受炮兵训练,与役印缅大反攻作战。一九四九年随军来台湾,历任军中广播电台高雄台长,继续写诗,其诗散见各报副刊。一九五三年曾以《载著歌的船》而名噪诗坛。嗣与墨人编辑《中国诗选》且创作日丰。一九六九年与诗友创立“诗宗社”。一九七三年被选为第二届世界诗人大会中国代表团副团长,结识美国女诗人梅茵·戴丽尔博士(Dr.
Marion E.Darrell)。一见锺情而缔造连理,传为中美诗坛佳话。嗣任世界诗人资料中心主席凡五年,曾荣获巴基斯坦自由大学赠与文学博士学位,又获颁世界桂冠诗人奖。
他是一位诗朗诵高手,曾以《花叫》一诗吟唱,风靡台湾各地。今虽年已耄耋,但仍创作不辍。
诗集包括《载著歌的船》、《诗玫瑰的花园》、《恋歌小唱》、《鹿苑》、《花叫》、《清商三辑》、《巴黎意象之书》,散文有《情感日记》、《虚空与自我》,论述有《诗的鑑赏》、《新诗的时代》、《论文艺运动》、《品茶与论诗》以及《彭邦桢文集》四册与《覃子豪诗选》等三十余种。 |

Peng Pang-zhen (known as Dr. Pang-zhen
Peng) was, a native of Hubei Province, born in 1919.
He began to write at an early age. After the eruption
of the War of Resistence Against Japanese Aggression,
he entered the Central Military Academy in which he
was known as a poet. After graduation from the 16th
class, he was appointed as an Army officer. In 1944
he joined the Youth Army receiving artillery training
in India and then took part in the counter-offensive
operations in Burma. In 1949 he came to Taiwan and worked
as the chief of the Kiaohsiung Broadcasting Station
while he continued writing poems. In 1953 The Boat Laden
With Songs was well received and he became a prominent
poet in Taiwan. Then he edited the Selection of Chinese
Poetry in collaboration with Mo Ren. In 1969, he led
in founding the Shih-chung School. In 1973 he was chosen
the deputy of the Corps of Chinese Poets for the Second
World Congress of Poets. At the conference he met Dr.
Marion E. Darrell, a poet from the United States, fell
in love, and shortly got married to become a legend
of love on both sides of the Pacific. After marriage
he moved to live in New York. He received the honorary
doctorate for literature from the Freedom University
of Pakistan. He was then elected the chairman of the
World Poets Resource Center Inc. Later he was rewarded
the Prize of World Laureate Poet.
Peng is a highly received poetry reader, and his singing-song
style of reading his "Flowers Cheering"became
well known in Taiwan in the 1970s. Though at an age
of more than eighty years, he is still in high spirit
to continue writing poems.
He published volumes of poetry including: The Boat
Laden with Songs, A Rose Garden of Poetry, Melodies
of Love Songs, Deer Garden, Flowers Cheering, Images
of Paris; essays: Diary of Sensation, Emptiness and
Selfness, Connoisseur of Poetry, Chin Tze-hao's Poetry,
On Tea and Poetry, and four volumes of Peng Pang-chen's
Complete Works.
