HUANG HELANG

Huang Holang is originally
from Changle Town, Fujian Province. He graduated in
1964 from the Fujian Teachers' University, majoring
in Chinese literature. He then taught for many years.
In 1975 he went to Hong Kong, and in 1995 moved to
the U.S.A., Currently he is the President of the Hawaii
Chinese Writers? Association, Chief Editor of the
literary journal Peral Harbor, and Visiting Professor
at the Huaqiao University in China.
He began publishing in the 1960s, including poetry,
essays, and literary criticisms, which appeared in
journals and newspapers in the mainland of China,
Hong Kong, Taiwan, and various international outlets.
His published books include collections of poems:
Ocean Spray Abroad, Poetic Sentiments on the Great
Earth, Echoes from the End of the Earth, High and
Low Tides of Hong Kong, Paces of the Wind, Ocean Breathing,
and the collection of essays, Love from Afar, among
others.
His essay, The Banyan Tree of My Home, written in
1979, won first prize in the Essays Section of the
Chinese Literature Awards, conducted by the Urban
Council of Hong Kong, and thereafter was widely reprinted
and commented upon. Beginning in the 1980s, it was
included in the first volume of the High School Literature
Textbook series in the mainland of China, and also
has been used at various universities as selected
teaching material or supplementary teaching material.
Mr. Huang's biographical sketch and list of achievements
appear in Biographical Sketches of Notable Chinese
Cultural Persons in the World, Encyclopedia of Chinese
Literary Persons, and among tens of various encyclopedias.
