PASSING SUN YAT-SEN
MEMORIAL HALL
I'm speeding by a little
too fast
Dusk approaches in many colors
McDonald's towering sign bars half its light
What remains fails to seep through
the dense smoke veil of motocycles and cars
with a side-long glance I see
on the rear-view mirror
those fearless tutelar stone tablets
looking old, wasted
unable to withstand the edge of Time's chisel
I'm speeding by a little
too fast
Far end of the street a cacophony of fiery lights
steals away my attention, lowers my curiosity
leases me to notice with a side-long glance
only the blur on the rear-view mirror
black dust wind already caught up to dusk
Night strikes the ground with its whole body
I wonder with lights suddenly exploding
if bats accustomed to the dark
will not scare into a wild retreat
